Josephine’s Resting Witch Face Tee

Halloween, somewhere along the Coast. Josephine has set her cauldron beside her front door, and the smell of toasted sugar is bringing trick-or-treaters up the walk. Ody, the Little Ghost of the Coast, arrives with the next group just in time to catch the fox giving her long plum skirt a little twirl. Then she spots him. Arms folded. One eyebrow raised beneath the witch’s hat. Apparently, the dancing portion of the evening was not open to the public.

She has worn fairy wings before. Scissors for hands, too, which presented certain difficulties with candy wrappers. “Trick or treat,” Ody says as he reaches her porch. Josephine ladles something green from her cauldron and offers him a cup. A tiny skull bobs to the surface. “Will this put a spell on me?” he asks. Her look suggests that the question has arrived considerably too late. She almost smiles. He forgets to ask what’s in it.
